          Bernstein was a very complex personality. One had to watch out, because he would frequently include a hidden test in his instructions, to see if you knew what you were doing.

          Once, I was assistant when he conducted Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring, with the Philharmonic in the Parks. The final section contains complex rhythmic changes; Bernstein rebarred this section to make it more practical.
